COM Express CPU runs at high speedsDisplay Solutions announces the availability of the latest COM Express CPU from Aaeon. The COM-915, together with its carrier board ECB-915A, incorporates Intel's 915GM chipset, and provides high-speed PCI Express bus interface and Serial ATA to meet the exacting demands of high-speed, high-performance applications requiring optimum stability. The COM-915 has been developed specifically to offer both users and manufacturers maximum flexibility, with inherent time to market benefits over a fully customised platform, in particular, offering reduced development time compared with the company's ETX series modules. As the core design is incorporated on the CPU board, the system can be upgraded simply by replacing this board. This enables embedded designers to focus on the key features and devices within their systems without concerns about keeping up with the ever changing processor market. Representing the next trend in embedded computing technology, the compact COM-915 supports 18/36bit dual-channel LVDS TFT panels, CRT and TV (NTSC and Pal) and features a DDRII 400/533 SODIMM memory module of up to 1Gbyte. In addition to the onboard Intel Pentium 915GM and ICH6M chipsets, there is a socket is for Intel's Pentium M and Celeron M processors. A digital audio interface is provided to connect to an audio codec on the carrier board; a choice of AC97 audio codec or high definition (HD) audio codec is available giving users control of the audio functionality of their products. Storage choices include parallel and serial ATA interfaces as well as a shared port with Compact Flash socket. The COM-915 supports 10/100Base-TX Ethernet and also includes eight USB 2.0 ports, na LPC bus and an I2C bus. The COM-915 is aimed at leading-edge applications in the gaming, entertainment, industrial automation, medical and POS sectors, which need fast availability yet high-end performance and niche targeting of their individual market sectors. Aaeon's COM Express carrier boards can be designed with features and technologies specifically targeting the needs of these different market segments. |
