Welcome to Embedded Computing and Control

Credit-card-sized controller has more memory

To meet the demand for extra application capacity Micro-Robotics, the Cambridge based manufacturer of custom and off-the-shelf embedded control solutions and components, has introduced an extended version of its popular VM-1 credit-card-sized embedded control computer. Known as the VM-1e, the maximum application code size is increased from 192 to 512Kbyte with the new controller being supplied with 512Kbyte RAM as standard. Micro-Robotics technical director, Karl Lam, said: 'Because Venom-SC, our proprietary object-oriented, semi-compiled language, is similar to Java in that it has an extremely high code density, only a few of our many customers ever reach the 192K limit'.

'However, the development of VM-1e is in recognition of the fact that customer expectations of software-powered products are constantly growing and that engineers prefer to design with spare capacity in hand whenever possible'.
